As the largest metropolitan area in Florida, as well as a hub of international finance and business, people from all over the world come here to work, play, socialize, and enjoy great food. With a thriving food truck scene of literally hundreds to choose from, it can be hard to decide where to eat. Here are five of the best food trucks Miami has to offer.

MS. CHEEZIOUS

Ms. Cheezious has been operating in Miami since 2010 and serving up what might be your favorite comfort food, grilled cheese sandwiches. They are one of the most popular food trucks in Miami and now have a brick-and-mortar shop at 7418 Biscayne Blvd., so you have even more ways to get ahold of their seriously cheesy sandwiches. Using high-quality ingredients lets them set their grilled cheese apart from ordinary makers. Ms. Cheezious has over 15 different grilled sandwiches on their menu, or you can build your own by selecting your choice of bread, cheese, and other toppings.

Their unique creations include the Frito Pie Melt with house chili, American cheese, jalapenos, onions, and Fritos on sourdough bread. Seafood enthusiasts might like the Crabby Cheese Melt with freshly made crab salad and sharp cheddar cheese on sourdough bread, while pasta lovers should try the Mackin Melt, a gouda mac n’ cheese with house-cured bacon on sourdough bread. If you have a sweet tooth, then go with the S’mores Melt with roasted marshmallows, salted chocolate hazelnut spread, and crumbled graham cracker on sourdough, or the Sweet Meltdown with ricotta cheese and orange marmalade on Texas toast with chocolate dipping sauce.

CAJA CALIENTE

The Caja Caliente food truck can be found at 95 NE 40 St. in Miami, while their brick-and-mortar location is at 808 Ponce De Leon Blvd. in Coral Gables. They create new takes on traditional Cuban food inspired by fresh seasonal produce and healthy eating. Starters include Cuban nachos of plantain chips with Lechon, Caja aioli, and cotija cheese. Or try their large yucca balls stuffed with picadillo. Their bowls consist of your choice of protein including shrimp, steak, and gator on a bed of quinoa with cucumber, black bean pico, cheese, and avocado.

Caja Caliente’s specialty is Cuban tacos and they’ve even been named as the best tacos in Florida. Their large tacos are made out of a 7-inch flour tortilla with 3 ounces of protein to fill you up and keep you satisfied. The proteins include grilled shrimp, mahi-mahi fish, pulled pork, shredded chicken, shredded skirt steak, and Florida alligator, which are combined with avocado, black bean pico, Caja aioli, cotija cheese, and more. Aside from tacos, you can also get burritos and disco voladors, which are buttery bread sandwiches made in a uniquely-shaped pan.

HIPPOPS

If you’re hankering for dessert, you can’t go wrong with HipPOPs and their handcrafted gelato bars. They have two POPtrucks, one in Denver and one in Miami, with a location schedule on their website. You can also book the POPtruck for event catering. They use natural ingredients and locally sourced milk in their high-quality, kosher desserts. You can select your pop flavor from a list, including such sweet delights as cappuccino gelato, pistachio gelato, vanilla gelato, or strawberry sorbet. Then, select a dip flavor of milk, white or semi-sweet chocolate, then top it with rainbow sprinkles or shredded coconut.

MAKAN MIAMI

Makan Miami is a new food truck on the scene that just opened in 2020 and is a modern mix of Peruvian and Asian cuisine. The menu is inspired by the Indonesian heritage of its creator Chef Michael mixed with the food he mastered while working as a chef at a Peruvian restaurant in Miami. Start with one of the items on their snack menu, such as breaded fish and shrimp with potato fries and homemade tartar sauce, or you might like the Pincho Pollo Pan, which consists of grilled chicken, smoked teriyaki, garlic bread, and Japanese mayo.

If you’re a seafood lover, you can build your own ceviches with either tuna, salmon, or white fish, plus additions from their list like shrimp, rocoto cream, coconut, edamame, and peach. They have a nice selection of burgers, including La Americana with Angus beef, BLT, Swiss cheese, and Makan pink sauce. Fish lovers can enjoy the Ceviche Frito with crispy white fish, sweet potato puree, lettuce, and salsa Criolla in aji Amarillo. If you prefer a plant-based diet, you’ll love the Pura Vegan with roasted eggplant, sweet plantains, guacamole, and tamarindo sauce.

MOTY’S GRILL

Moty’s Grill serves up a selection of fine Middle Eastern Mediterranean cuisine. From falafel balls to pita bread, they offer an assortment of kosher-style foods using only kosher ingredients with no dairy. They can be booked for event catering with their truck bringing fresh food right to your celebratory location. Their menu consists of appetizers, salads, pita pocket sandwiches, pita pockets stuffed with fries, platters, and a kids’ menu.

For starters, try their falafel appetizer, which gets you six falafel balls served with babaganoush and tahini dressing. The pita pocket sandwiches come with lettuce, tomato, and cucumber, and you can choose from chicken, lamb and beef, steak, falafel, and more. Or go with The Bomb, a pita pocket stuffed with fries, chicken shawarma, and falafel. Their platters include fries, salad, toasted pita, hummus, and more. Go with 3 Crazy Cousins to get all their signature dishes in one platter with two kibbeh, two falafels, and one chicken schnitzel, which is a breaded deep-fried chicken breast.
