All of the brand’s engines—from the Mitsubishi 4B1 to the Sirius 4G69—are built at the powertrain plant in Shiga, Japan. Additionally, there’s a car research and development center located in Okazaki, Aichi, Japan. The Mitsubishi brand also has a footing in the U.S. There’s another center for research and development located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

• In the 1970s. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. became the sole shareholder of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.
• In the 1980s, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established with the Mitsubishi Corporation as a joint capital investment. 
• Shortly after, Mitsubishi Motor Sales Corporation took over its operations. 
• In 2015, Mitsubishi Motors North America ceased car production operations. 
• Then, in 2016, MMC and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. joined in an alliance. 
• Today, Mitsubishi is owned by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
